Successful Evening Networking – Event Recap

Our Evening Networking Mixer event on March 21 featured speaker Jake Barr, Global Director – Supply Network Operations at P&G.  He delivered an exceptional presentation on the topic of Supply Chain Talent Issues.

Mr. Barr’s words ignited our imagination about how we can help solve the current multi faceted puzzle our industry is facing: how will our companies survive without good, capable new hires. We learned that there is a significant gap between what the universities are teaching through their Supply Chain curriculum and what companies need from Young Professionals fresh out of college. We also know that our wonderful and diverse profession of Supply Chain and Logistics need some good marketing and PR in the world of texting and “facebooking” teenagers.  We will take Jake’s message with us and as members of CSCMP, we will help solve the puzzle.

You can find more information about The Supply Chain Talent Academic Initiative (SCTAI) on their website at http://supply-chain.org/node/11466.

Jake also mentioned a Youtube video of an Arizona State University professor explaining what Supply Chain Management is through the example of a bottle of water. The idea is that we have to capture the interest of high school and freshmen college students so they choose the Supply Chain profession for their future. Otherwise we’ll run out of talented new hires very soon.

Motoman Robotics – Innovation for the Supply Chain

Members and guests of the Cincinnati CSCMP Roundtable attended a one of a kind Facility Tour last Thursday at the Dayton, Ohio Headquarters of Yaskawa Motoman Robotics.

Mr. Dean Elkins, Senior General Manager at Yaskawa America, Inc. delivered an insightful presentation about the company’s past, present and future. We learned the truly global nature of this industry proved by the Motoman robots, or as Mr. Elkins called them “steel collar workers” represented in virtually every industry around the world, from welding to material handling – even in the entertainment world dealing Blackjack cards upon demand.

Seeing all the innovation and automation sparked our imagination about the truly fascinating opportunities of robotics in the Supply Chain Industry. You can learn more about Motoman at their website at www.motoman.com.
